Day 1 ~ Skye
I have been travelling on my own for a while now ever since leaving the caravan at the keep. Arashi has grown stong and I hope to be able to start training him as a mount soon, should he allow it. The Dog, who stubbornly refuses to respond to any name, has stayed with me through most of this and I must admit I am getting quite attached to him. Yet again I am looking at the items I am carrying on behalf of Ren and wonder what foul magic might be on them. I have been unable to make my way home to the University to gain aid in this task. It does make me think about Her and Orana though and I hope that whereever they are they are safe. I do not trust them to remain out of danger for long however and I find myself considering trying to find them. After all someone has to protect Orana from herself.
Day 2 ~ Skye
I was approached today by a man in jet black robes, who I have recently found out to be called Stephos. He stated that Orana and Ren were in trouble and that he could deliver me to them. At the time he seemed sincere and, well they are often in trouble. I accepted and was teleported to a place I have never seen before. Waking from unconciousness I found Orana and Ren to be with me but in no more danger than I. They too have met the man though unlike I they had not taken him at his word. He had been forced to subdue then before bringing them. We were not alone in this predicament however, two others were with us. The first, Leon, was taken from a tundra and also put up a fight. The other is the first being I have met in a long while who has to look up to me. I find it quite refreshing even if he is a bit scaly under his cowl. His main form of comummicating seems to be telepathy. A fact that seemed to scare Ren for he chose to speak to her first. Orana was her usual diplomatic self in convincing him to speak. Snite, for that is his name, did not know who had brought him here but I would think it is safe to say it was Stephos.
This plain does not have much cover and in the distance we and see three towns. One is abandonned but the other two seem more guarded than our own war torn home of Elas. Ren made the decision to head for one of the two towns. I personally could see no difference bewteen the two but she has more experience of towns than I.
We are now making camp for the night and will reach the town at midday tomorrow.
Day 3 ~ Skye
I must say that the dog seems to be acting very friendly to Snite since last night. It's strange for he does not seem to take to most people so quickly. Snite and Orana mentioned in passing some bats last night that flew off towards the town just as first light appeared. I am unsure whether this is something to worry about but have noted it just in case. The routes to the town seemed quite which we found out was for good reason. A sign above the gates proclaimed the town 'Fort Giant Killer' and we were met at the gates by a man who named himself as Lord Roal of Golden Lake. He was able to tell us what strange land it was we found ourselves in.
This land is called Tortal and has been at war with its neighbour Scanra for almost four years now. King Jonathan, who rules Tortal, does not believe in expansion so has refused to do more than defend his borders from Maggu Raggerson, the man who united Scanra.
Raol stated that to find our way home we should find Nymes Sal Malen, a great wizard from Corus, the capital two days ride hence. He was fairly emphatic in this stating we were to leave the next morning. We agreed but I was still curious about the deserted village that stands in the neutral grounds. My curiosity grew when I found out that it was called seers village. Determined to visit it I allowed the others to enter the town without me. I left my dog and pack with them taking only Arashi for it would be a long run. Snite insisted he come with me and spread wings from his back speeding on ahead. I am not surprised for he seemed like a dragon to me from the start. The ability to fly should come naturally to such a one. As does the changing of shape though I hope he refrains from displaying himself as a halfling again as he did for Raol. It is strangely disconcerting.
We reached the seers village at the fall of night. It seemed deserted but for one building. I left Arashi outside and entered it, taking care to be polite as my elders taught me. Magicians can be so touchy if you interrupt them whilst they are working I find. I could smell incense in the air and in the one occupied room an old man was busy playing a harp. My knock roused him from his playing and he grew interested in my presence for I believe he does not get many visitors. During his conversation with me a strange thing happened. The bowl in front of him started to billow smoke and he spoke in a strange voice.
"Welcome travellers but take heed, this prophecy will states what you need. Six power stones you must find, for they will break the ties that bind."
When he returned to normal I questioned him about this rhyme and he told me of the 11 power stones that existed in this world. Two each of Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Balance and one for chaos. King Jonathan and Maggu each hold one of the first five. The chaos stone has been missing a long while. I thanked the man and then Snite and I returned to Fort to sleep before our ride the next day.
Day 4 Early Morning ~ Skye
I was told this morning of the antics of Ren and Orana last night. They and Leon chose to find a pub and I pray Orana has not found another to be barred from. Leon spent most of his time performing it seems whilst Ren and Orana did what they do best. Ren informed me that the soldiers seemed unhappy that they were not allowed to attack Scanra but they seemed happy to have Raol as their leader. It seemed the fort was named after his exploits. They also talked of a refugee camp controlled by Raol's former squire Lady Kaladry. Orana added at this point that a lovely lady she had spoken to had mentioned that Lady Kaladry had been instrumental in destroying the person creating animated constructs for Scanra. Another woman was mentioned as well Veraldaine Sarassi. Apparently she is renowned though why they did not find out.
I look forward to the trip ahead for the chance to see more of this land. Raol gave one of his dogs to Snite to use as a mount promising to ensure it was trained for this purpose properly when we reach the capital. I find he is an honourable man. I must lay down my pen now but will retell the journey once we have stopped for the night.
