Gathered together for the first time, the group waited in a spice merchants backroom for the man who had recruited them all. Wei Farimh made no attempt to introduce himself instead going straight to the mission he wished them to perform.
There had been a murder in the palace of a scribe called Baram Ide. Wei Farimh presents the groups with the only clues found at the scene of the crime: A coin of unknown origin, a silk scarf and a broken Katana. He also presents them with three chits each for staying a night per chit at the White Swan.
The group head for the White Swan and once there find out that other than them only one other person lives under its roof, Patal Shun the ambassador of Fereheen. While talking to some of the regulars the group are told that the logo on the Katana is ARV and stands for the weaponsmith who created it. They also hear strange rumours of a shadowy figure patrolling a graveyard on the outskirts of the city. Further enquiries at a local smithy sends them to Ancient Rinshu Vree, a well established master weaponsmith who caters to the noble clans. The smithy is also able to confirm that the coin found is from Fereheen.
Once at the ARV's smithy a combination of flattery and fast talking allow them to gain the name of the noble who commissioned the weapon, Tasha Itune of the oak clan. A quick enquiry leads them to the Oak complex that is the seat of the clan.
After staking out the complex Alaric checks the complex for magic defenses as the others work out how to enter. Talen is the first to succeed as, pretending to be playing in the street, he asks the guards , in the guise of a nobleman's son, if he can get into the complex to fetch the ball he had accidentally kicked into it. The guards relent and escort him to Tasha as per her request.
A brief conversation later the others are brought in. Tasha discovers that Talen isn't noble but refrains from exposing him to the guards. Showing the sword to Tasha the group find out that she commissioned the katana as a special gift to her nephew Feidu. The sword is enchanted to be virtually indestructable unless wielded in anger at which time the blade will break. There is now no doubt that Feidu was the wielder of the blade that killed Baram Ide as the weapon has been virtually useless since breaking.
Chargrined but resigned to the fate that awaits her nephew she presents the group with a letter to give to him when they see him. She then explains that he is a member of the Emperor's Guard. Recieving directions to the guards barracks and promising to inform Tasha of the outcome of their visit, the group leave the complex.
Locating Feidu Itune he at first denies all knowledge of the blade but upon reading the letter from his aunt confesses to the murder. No amount of questioning however will make him explain why he commited the crime. When investigating the contents of the letter it simply states. "Do what honour asks. Tell the truth."
Leaving Feidu Itune in the custody of the guard the group return to the spice merchant to inform Wei Farimh of their findings. Pleased he hands them payment and informs them he will meet with them again the next day with a new mission.
- simultaneously as the main group arrest Tasha's nephew Kasha is sent on an information gathering mission for one of her 'customers'. Disguised as a replacement scribe for Baram Ide she infiltrates his old office. Searching it she finds a note hidden among his papers. It states "I am on to them. This is treason."
